We have moved many times over the course of our life together. Those experiences have given us a unique perspective on what it means to sow a seed, give it the care and nuture it needs, and then to walk away to leave the harvest in the hands of those to follow. Our mission always seems to be one of sowing and nuturing. As difficult as it is to walk away from the hopes of a harvest, whether it be in our own backyard or in the hearts of the people we labor to help, we know that we are continually walking forward with faith. We are continually dependent on the Savior's grace and tender mercies and that indeed when the day to labor in the Lord's vineyard draws to a close, the harvest that awaits us will be truly glorious!
A few more thoughts...
WOW!!! Life gets busy! There is always something going on: floors to spot clean, school work to check, legos to pick up, newsletters to put together, laundry to hang out, keepsake papers to file, Master Panda's cage to clean, emails to send out, dishes to wash, and the list goes on and on! But in and amongst all these sometimes tedious labors of life are the moments that make our lives and choices all worth it! These moments are the ones that make our hearts skip a beat and cause us to bow our heads to send a silent prayer to Heaven in gratitude for our blessings. These moments are blessings, even tender mercies, from our loving Father in Heaven.
Gordon B. Hinckley expressed it this way...
"Anyone who imagines that bliss is normal is going to waste a lot of time running around and shouting that he has been robbed. The fact is most putts don't drop, most beef is tough, most children grow up to be just like people, most successful marriages require a high degree of mutual toleration, and most jobs are more often dull than otherwise. Life is just like an old time rail journey..... delays, sidetracks, smoke, dust, cinders, and jolts, interspersed only occasionally by beautiful vistas, and thrilling bursts of speed. The trick is to thank the Lord for letting you have the ride. (Gordon B. Hinckley, "What God Hath Joined Together," Ensign, May 1991, 71).
How do we show our gratitude for not only the beautiful vistas, and the thrilling bursts of speed, but also for the delays that give us time to catch our breath, the sidetracks that take us to places we didn't think to go, the smoke, dust, and cinders that bear witness of our efforts to get as far as we have, and the jolts that snap us to attention and turn us back to God? Every experience has purpose and is for our good. When we record the moments of our lives we allow the lessons of our life to be passed on to the next generation. Reflection is a powerful teacher. The Spirit whispers to my heart that I can show gratitude to my Father in Heaven by capturing as many of these experiences as I can. That's why I do what I do. I'm a record keeper. And I blog.....
